A new season begins - The Silly Season

In Pro Golf, the have what is called the Silly Season. It is when all of the regular tour events have ended. Most golfers take some time off, others host their own events, some keep playing wherever they can. There is the Skins Game and a few other semi serious although profitable events.

For me, The Silly Season means a few events after all of my goal races have passed. Upcoming events, which I of course will put forth good efforts but not take too seriously include:

Nov 22 - Hanukkah Hustle 5 or 10k in Hamilton
Nov 29 - Chilly Willy Half Marathon & 10k in Mississauga
Dec 12 - Santa Jingle
Jan 1 - Hair of the Dog - 9k run in the beaches. Peach Schnapps at the halfway!

Other possibilities:

Dec 26 - Hamilton Boxing Day 10 miler
Dec 27 - Resolution Run - 5K - Downtown Toronto

Check out the events page http://www.runningwithscissors.ca/events/ for more details.

Marathon Season winds down

This is it, the final weekend. I just want to give a shout out to Sia, Beth and Duff for running NYC, Army Mark, Efraim, Melanie and Ray (and me) for running Hamilton ...and who else? I am not sure. I hope everyone who is running this weekend let's us know how their race went.

Looking for another to tide you over until the new year? Try the Chilly Willy Half Marathon, November 29. This is a good event, run on traffic free paths in and around the parklands near the finish area of the Mississauga marathon. Chili lunch served afterward.

I am too tired, even to be happy. -Gelindo Bordin, Italy, immediately after winning the Olympic Marathon in Seoul

Marathon Season continues

As we head towards November, the sign of marathons continue. Niagara Falls this weeknd (which I will run as 4hr pace rabbit) and Hamilton the weekend after (which I will run as a 'we'll see what happens' race) as well as New York for Beth and Sia, and fearless Duff as a blind runner guide.

So, don't put your shoes away. If you are feeling up to it, Hamilton offers up a half marathon as well.II stress IF you're feeling up to it.

Otherwise, keep at it, keep the mileage up and get yourselves some base for next spring's race season. Duff has announced that he will continue on with the Marathon clinic. I cannot commit to it but I will help out whenever / wherever I can. Duff is looking for volunteers as group leaders. This means you would be responsible on the runs for ensring the wellness of a certain pace of runners for each run. It pays too 30% off coupon I think. This is actually how the clinic is meant to run. For thos of you who saw Spirit of the Marathon, you see the CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) training in this very manner but on a much larger scale.

We are hoping to help build the popularity of marathoning in the beaches so following the group leader method will be a must as we continue on.

See you out there!

Here we go again - Goodlife Marathon Weekend

Well gang, are you ready or what?

There are a few who are running this weekend as their goal race, and a few running as a follow up to Scotia.

Good luck to all of you.

If you want to meet up pre run on Sunday go to the Running Room on Yonge...just south of Mel Lastman Square .. 1/2 marathoners meet at 7:15-7:30 as that race starts at 8 a.m.

For the marathon runners, lets meet at 8 ish and yell at the other runners.

Your thoughts for this weekend:
The mind is the decisive factor in your life, but who decides for the mind? A positive attitude brings strength, energy and initiative.
